Long Track

Long Track Speedskating

  • The Midtown Park Skating Oval has great ice, usually from late November to early March. Come on out and enjoy the oval. You don't have to have speedskates to glide on the ice.  And there’s no cost to skate on the city-owned and maintained facility.
  • There are regularly scheduled Club races, both packstyle and metric (Olympic style).  And even marathon length (5, 10, 25 and 50 km) races one race day.  In some years there is the speedskate-skate ski duathlon.
  • We have organized practice times on Tuesday evenings and general speedskating sessions on Sunday afternoons.
  • Starting in the 2020-21 season we are offering a professionally coached Long Track skating program on Tuesday evenings.
  • Click on the “Registration Info” tab for more information about all our programs.
  • For all events, click on the “calendar” tab above for details.
  • For kids, there are month-long skating programs available through our partner organization, the Anchorage Skate Club.

  • We ask you make a tax deductible $20 donation for an Oval Pin to help pay for ice maintenance.
  • You can get an Oval Pin from club members at practices and races, or on-line by registering using the Register tab at the top right of this website, or at Alaska Mountaineering and Hiking, or make your donation to the 'Anchorage Skates Fund' of the Alaska Community Foundation here (minimum donation via ACF is $25.).
  • For costs to participate in Club programs click on “Registration Info” tab above on this website.
  • You can become a member of the Alaska Speedskating Club—$40 or an individual or $80 for a family.

  • We hold Long Track races on some Sunday afternoons, roughly once per month, and on some Thursday evenings, also once a month. These races are for everyone and you can wear any skates.
  • Registration can be done on-line (see “Registration Info” tab above on this website) or on the day of the event at least a half hour before race time. Come on out and have fun!
