Club Membership 2025-26

Membership in the Alaska Speedskating Club. All skaters who skate at more than two club practices or races need to become members. There's individual membership ($40), family membership ($80), and Non-Skating membership ($15). Membership fees help pay for insurance, ice fees, new equipment and supplies, permits, coaching, etc. All skaters are required to sign the club’s Code of Conduct and Liability Waiver (see those 2 programs below).

Liability Waiver/Release 2025-26

This is the Liability Waiver/Release for participating in club activities. There is also a Photo Release, which is encouraged but optional. All skaters must sign the Waiver/Release and the Code of Conduct (see next Program) for the current year prior to participating in practices or races. There is no fee for the Waiver/Releases or Code of Conduct.

Code of Conduct 2025-26

All participants must read, accept and act in accordance with the AKSSC Code of Conduct. This assures that participants in AKSSC-sponsored activities behave with respect, fairness, and honesty toward others. There is no fee for the Code of Conduct.

Short Track/Long Track Program 2025-26

  • Coached Short Track (ST) skating Saturday mornings (8:15 to 9:45) and Wednesday evenings (7 to 8) from mid-Sept to mid-March. Most sessions will be at the Sullivan Arena but some will be at the Kelly (O'Malley) Sports Center. Check the Club calendar for practice location.
  • Coached Long Track (LT) practices at the 400-meter skating oval in Cuddy Midtown Park on Tuesday and Thursday evenings (6:30 to 8) once there's ice on the oval, early December to the latter part of February.
  • See the Club calendar for specific dates/locations.
  • There are 50 scheduled ST sessions and 24 LT sessions..
  • Included in the program fee is ST and LT ice costs and coaching in both ST and LT skating.
  • There are a variety of program fee options based on age, individual vs family, full vs half season, and regular vs occasional skating. There is a 2-session introductory option.
  • The first half of the season runs from September 17 to December 17, 2025, and the second half of the season runs from December 18 to March 21, 2026.
  • Monthly payment plans are available if you sign up for the full season. 
  • Scholarships available for financial need.
  • Skaters at all levels are welcome to join the program.
  • There is also a LT Only Skating Program and LT Races--see those programs below.
  • The Club has ST skates and safety gear. There's no charge for use for the 2-session introductory option. For longer skating options skates and gear are to be rented from the Club . See Rental program below.
  • Prior to your first skating session please call/text Club president Martin Leonard (907-545-1830) or coach John Monroe (907-538-7667‬) to arrange to get set up with skates and gear.
  • Prior to skating all skaters are required to sign the Liability Waiver and Code of Conduct--see those programs above.

Short Track Skate and Gear Rental 2025-26

The Club has a large selection of short track skates and safety gear, and a limited number of Cut Suits to rent to skaters. In addition to registering for skate and gear rental online, at the time the equipment is picked up renters will need to sign an "Alaska Speedskating Club Skate and Safety Gear Rental Agreement" that lists the specific equipment rented . Rentals are for the full fall/winter/spring skating season.

Long Track Only Program 2025-26

  • Long Track (LT) skating begins once ice is laid on the 400-meter skating oval in the Cuddly Midtown Park. Ice is usually ready in late November or early December, and lasts until the end of February or early March.
  • LT sessions are on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6:30 to 8.
  • The first LT session is scheduled for Dec 2. The last is Feb 26, for a total of 24.
  • Certified speedskating coaches lead each session. The Long Track Only program welcomes skaters of all abilities.
  • (There are also LT Races on some weekday evenings and Sunday afternoons--see "Long Track Races" below.)
  • Prior to skating all skaters are required to sign the Liability Waiver and Code of Conduct--see those programs above.

Long Track Races 2025-26

Races are held at the Cuddy Midtown Park 400 m skating oval. Ice is usually ready in late November or early December and lasts until late February. Race days yet to be determined. There are __races days this season __ on Sundays at 1:30 PM and ___ on Thursdays at 6:30 PM. Race days will be posted on Club calendar. Races are fun and informal, and are open to skaters of all abilities. Races are normally at distances of 100 meters, 500 meters, 1000 meters, 1500 meters and 3000 meters. There is also a marathon race (February ___) with distances of 5K, 10K, 25K and 50K. Alaska Mountaineering and Hiking provides prizes for racers. Good fun.

Oval Ice Donation 2025-26

Donate to ice maintenance of the 400-meter long track skating oval at Cuddy Park. All donations go from the Club to the Municipality of Anchorage to offset the cost of a contract to make ice in the early winter and then maintain it 3 times a week during the winter. Help us make great ice! Donors receive a cool "Oval Pin."
