Club Membership 2024-25

Membership in the Alaska Speedskating Club. All skaters who skate at more than two club practices or races need to become members. There's an individual membership ($40) and family membership ($80). Membership fees help pay for insurance, ice fees, new equipment and supplies, permits, coaching, etc. All skaters are also required to sign the club’s Code of Conduct and Liability Waiver (see those 2 programs below).

Liability Waiver/Release 2024-25

This is the Liability Waiver/Release for participating in club activities. There is also a Photo Release, which is encouraged but optional. All skaters must sign the Waiver/Release and the Code of Conduct (see next Program) for the current year prior to participating in practices or races. There is no fee for the Waiver/Releases or Code of Conduct.

Code of Conduct 2024-25

All participants must read, accept and act in accordance with the AKSSC Code of Conduct. This assures that participants in AKSSC-sponsored activities behave with respect, fairness, and honesty toward others. There is no fee for the Code of Conduct.

Summer Short Track Skating 2024

This is the Summer Short Track Program at the O'Malley Sports Center. There are 11 skating sessions. The first session is June 12 and the last is August 28.

Sessions are:
4 to 5:30 PM every Wednesday from June 12 to August 28 (except for Wednesday Aug 7).

Arrive at least a half hour early to suit up and warm up.

You can sign up (register) below for all 11 sessions ($230), 7 sessions ($165), or up to 2 individual sessions ($26 each). Also see the family rates for 2 or more immediate family members. ' Select' from the skating options below.

Skaters at all levels are welcome to join in. All sessions are coached. Coaching is geared for all skating levels.

Club membership is required for those skating more than two sessions. The new membership year begins July 1, but if you are skating any time in the summer of 2024 you can sign up for the 2024-25 membership now. Scroll down the registration page to sign up for club membership..

Helmets and other safety equipment (shin guards, knee pads, neck guard and gloves) are required. Bike helmets are OK. Skates and safety equipment are available for rent--see the rental sign up at the bottom of the registration page. Rental is not required to use club skates and safety equipment to skate only one or two sessions.

If it will be your first time come early to get set up with skates and safety equipment, and contact Coach John Monroe (907-538-7667 or [email protected]) to let him know you are coming and to get additional information.

All skaters (or guardians) must sign the Liability Waiver/Release and a Code of Conduct. Scroll down the registration page to do so.

Summer Skate and Gear Rental 2024

The Club has a selection of short track skates and safety gear to rent. Short track skate rental is $35 for the summer season, and safety gear rental is $15 for the summer season. New skaters can use club skates at no cost for up to 2 sessions. If you need to rent skates and/or safety equipment for only one skater select Rental #1, but if you need to rent skates and/or safety equipment for a second or third skater, select the Rental #2 or #3 for additional rentals.

A limited number of cut suits are available for rent for $25 for the summer sessions. Check with Martin Leonard ( 907-545-1830) on availability before selecting cut suits for rent.

Renters will need to sign a hard copy Rental Agreement that lists the specific equipment rented. This should be done at the rink at the time skates/safety equipment are issued to a skater.
